Climbing in the 'Skull Cave'

Leaving Crested Butte on Thursday morning.

I was able to get out of CB with my good buddy and fellow CBMG Guide John MacKinnon http://johnnymtguide.blogspot.com/ and Roven on Thursday morning last week for a few days of sport climbing in Rifle State park. We were meeting Mike 'i'm back in the states but i really miss Chamonix' Bromberg http://theguidesnotebook.com/ and his dog louie. I had been to rifle
before but only to climb ice. The rock is amazing, climbing stellar, and the whole scene is great. i will be back!

Note how Louis is sitting behind Mike nice and calm like?

Pepper the Climbing dog

For the past 2 years I have been meeting Kathy, Linda, and Betty for winter and summer trips around Crested Butte. Ranging from simple snowshoe tours to harder multi pitch rock climbing in nearby Taylor canyon. Last week a Low pressure system came through the Rockies dropping out temps much lower then normal. So on Thursday morning I meet the posse at the guide shack for a morning of rock climbing. I suggested Hartmens a place that had yet to venture to, normally a Hartmens trip this time of year would be miserable, but the weather was in out favor. When we stepped out of the car a little before 10:00 am it was 58 degrees! We enjoyed a leisurely morning of rock climbing and soon learned that Linda's dog pepper was a climber to! Pepper proceeded to free solo up a near by 5.5 slab with little difficulty and then traverse over to her Mom! we all had a good laugh at that.

Pepper done showing off
Thanks again ladies for another great day out, looking forward to it again real soon!
Your Guide.
